The brief
In a niche market saturated with highly specialised biosecurity training providers, maintaining a point of a difference is crucial. Our approach? Creating a highly intuitive booking & e-commerce system that redefines the online training booking journey for BT South’s users.
supporting an information-rich experience with a re-vitalised visual identity
Revitalising a visual identity
A re-vitalised visual identity was an integral component of ensuring users encountered a frictionless booking journey. In a largely conservative market, the choice of a strong typeface with quirky accents provided an effective foundation for an information-first brand. This was paired with minimalist 2D iconography to bring additional meaning to core messaging, & bring visual interest to an information-rich experience.
A re-defined interface with carefully iterated foundations
A clearly defined & iterated sitemap provided foundations for creating low-fidelity wireframes of key pages. Tightly constrained by a limited budget, the UI design had to be lean, without compromising engagement for users. Consistent content hierarchies were paired with toned-back brand accents, creating visual interest that no only engaged with users throughout their booking experience, but also supported the brand’s core elemetns throughout.
balancing time and budget constraints with a polished, thoroughly tested end product
Testing, testing
Rigorous UAT testing ensured users encountered a frictionless journey across a range of devices & scenarios. A Jira board grouped by priority & status ensured bugs were documented & communicated - a systematic approach was crucial in ensuring functionality was achieved within the limited timeframe available.
The learnings
Communicate, clarify and collaborate
Instances of re-work could’ve been avoided with clearer requirement specifications at the outset. Hard lessons were learnt in ensuring kickoff workshops were included in the project’s scope - in a time sensitive project context, sporadic communication led to multiple paper trails and a “bitsy” understanding of requirements which could’ve been clarified at the outset if planned more carefully.
Content planning is key
Content needs to be clearly grouped and prioritised to ensure modules accomodate this appropriately. Prior to wireframing, content should be mapped with a clear hierarchy to avoid potential re-work and retrofitting of modules.
